Apache Junction (85119 and 85120)

Apache Junction sits mostly in Pinal County. A small part of the city, including the El Dorado Mobile Estates area, is in Maricopa County. The city was incorporated on November 24, 1978, and it takes its name from the junction of the Apache Trail and the Old West Highway. Census 2020 counted 38,499 people. The Census Bureau’s 2025 vintage estimate is 45,672. About 34% of residents are 65 or older, and about 79% of occupied homes are owner-occupied.

85119 and 85120 are the standard delivery ZIP codes. City Hall is at 300 E Superstition Blvd, Apache Junction, AZ 85119. That is the city’s address, not a shop address for this service. The location listed here is Apache Junction, AZ 85120. 85117 and 85178 are post office box ZIPs, not house-delivery areas.

People orient by US-60, which runs west toward Mesa and Phoenix, and by SR-88, the Apache Trail, which runs northeast toward the Superstition Mountains and Lost Dutchman State Park. Idaho Road and Ironwood Drive are the in-town corridors callers use when they describe a house. The starting point for a repair is water heater repair in Apache Junction.

Gold Canyon (85118)

Gold Canyon is an unincorporated community southeast of the city, in Pinal County. It is not inside Apache Junction city limits, even though some mail can show either name. Permit questions go to Pinal County. Bulletin 003 says a same-type, same-size, same-location water heater replacement may be permit exempt. Check the water company name on your bill. This guide does not name a Gold Canyon water provider.

Neighborhoods and parks

What matters for the water heater is the housing mix, not a list of subdivision names. An ASU Project Cities report in 2023 says mobile housing represents 63% of the city’s housing stock, more than half of homes are mobile, manufactured, or RV, and there are about 125 parks. If you are in one of those parks, use the mobile home water heater page. Lost Dutchman State Park is about five miles up SR-88. Goldfield Ghost Town is also off the Apache Trail.

Which water provider serves you?

The city utility page says electricity is Salt River Project, gas is Southwest Gas, sewer is the Apache Junction Sewer District, and water is either Apache Junction Water District or Arizona Water Company, depending on the address. Apache Junction Water District’s office is at 300 E Superstition Blvd, Building D. Its hardness FAQ says the blended supply would be considered hard water, greater than 10.5 grains per gallon. Arizona Water’s Apache Junction consumer confidence report describes groundwater from area wells plus some water from the district. It does not print a hardness number. TapWaterData reports Arizona Water’s system near 3.8 grains per gallon. Use your bill, not a blog, to see which provider you pay.

Permit authority by area

Inside Apache Junction city limits, Building Safety applies the like-for-like exemption in section 7-1-6(B), and the fee table applies when fuel, type, or location changes. In Gold Canyon and other unincorporated Pinal County land, the county bulletin applies. A house on the Maricopa County side of the city is still in the city if it is inside city limits. Do not guess from the ZIP alone. The permit guide quotes both documents.

Calls outside these ZIPs

Mesa and San Tan Valley are outside this service area. Calls are for Apache Junction 85119 and 85120, and Gold Canyon 85118. If your address is somewhere else, say so when you call.
